From Henschke, the Eden Valley estate that has been making wine in South Australia since 1868. Fifth-generation winemaker Stephen Henschke runs the winery alongside his viticulturist wife Prue, with their three Eden Valley vineyards and one Adelaide Hills vineyard farmed in line with biodynamic principles. Henschke's flagship single-vineyard Shiraz wines, Hill of Grace and Mount Edelstone, are among the most celebrated in Australia.
Mount Edelstone is a 16-hectare single-vineyard Shiraz first bottled in 1952, making it one of Australia's longest continuously produced single-vineyard wines. The dry-grown, ungrafted vines, planted in 1912, sit on ancient red-brown clay-loam soils that consistently yield wines of great depth and finesse: dark cherry, plum, black pepper, anise and savoury spice on a structured, silky palate with a long, perfumed finish.
Fruit is hand-picked from low-yielding vines and fermented in traditional open-top fermenters before being matured in a mix of French and American oak hogsheads. Bottle ageing in the Henschke cellar follows before release.
