Jean-Luc Jamet established his own estate in Ampuis in 2013, in the heart of Cote-Rotie in the Northern Rhone. Working with parcels on the steep, schistous slopes of this storied appellation, he makes wines in a style that emphasises depth and structure, with careful destemming, a measured use of new oak and ageing in cask before bottling.
Les Terrasses is the estate's flagship Cote-Rotie, made entirely from Syrah. It shows a deep ruby-purple colour and a nose of brambly dark fruit threaded with stony, mineral notes. The palate is juicy yet fresh, with cassis, dark cherry and raspberry, a fine savoury edge and a long, structured finish that rewards time in the glass.
Serve at cool room temperature and decant a young bottle. It is a natural partner for grilled and roasted red meats, lamb, game and peppered dishes.
