Giacomo Conterno Barolo 'Francia' 2020 750ml

One of the most revered names in all of Piemonte, Giacomo Conterno is a fiercely traditional Barolo estate based just outside Monforte d'Alba. Now run by Roberto Conterno, with his son Gabriele alongside him, the domaine has been at the helm of the family since Giovanni Conterno passed in 2004. The legendary Cascina Francia vineyard in Serralunga d'Alba was purchased in 1974, with the first vintage from the site released in 1978; the Barolo has been labelled simply 'Francia' from the 2010 vintage onwards in line with Italian naming laws.

100% Nebbiolo from the Francia vineyard in Serralunga d'Alba, one of the commune's finest sites. Expect the classic Serralunga profile: deep, structured and powerful, with dark cherry, rose, tar, dried herb, liquorice and the saline, earthy minerality that defines this terroir. Ageing potential here is measured in decades.

Ultra-traditional winemaking, with long maceration and extended ageing — around four years — in large Slavonian oak botti before bottling. No small barriques, no modernist concessions.
