Gentle Folk is the small family winery of Gareth and Rainbo Belton, based in Basket Range in the western Adelaide Hills. They farm a handful of cool, elevated sites organically with some biodynamic practices, using cover crops, grazing animals and hand harvesting in the cool of the morning, and they make their wines with nothing added apart from a splash of sulphur at bottling.
The Monomeith Pinot Noir is drawn from a single vineyard owned by Patrick and Vienna O'Sullivan and farmed by Gentle Folk. Planted in 1996, the 1.33 hectare site sits at around 520 metres with both east and west facing slopes, and is planted entirely to Pinot Noir across clones MV6, 114, 115 and 777.
Its soils of quartz rubble over siltstone, sandstone and clay are typical of the Mount Lofty Ranges and lend the wine a fine, savoury frame. Expect a vibrant, red fruited Adelaide Hills Pinot Noir shaped by altitude, with bright acidity and a transparent expression of this particular patch of ground.
Vintages may vary. Email us at hello@barrelandbatch.com.au if you would like confirmation.
