Génot-Boulanger is a family-run Burgundy domaine based in Meursault, with holdings spread across both the Côte de Beaune and the Côte Chalonnaise. Clos de Vougeot is the famous walled grand cru of the Côte de Nuits, originally established by the monks of Cîteaux; the estate's small parcel sits in the well-regarded Les Boudes Basses sector, on shallow, calcareous-clay soils.
The 2022 is a graceful, transparent take on this often-mighty grand cru. Cranberry, raspberry and pressed flowers lead, with a faint sous-bois note adding depth. The palate is medium-bodied, with finely chiselled tannins and a real sense of Pinoté, more about delineation and length than weight; the finish lingers softly and pure.
One for the cellar; serve with roast game birds, beef in red wine, mushroom dishes or a fine washed-rind cheese.
