Dönnhoff is one of Germany's great Riesling estates, family-run for generations and based in the small Nahe village of Oberhausen. The Brücke ("Bridge") vineyard is the smallest single site they bottle and a monopole of the family, planted on dark slate and loam soils alongside the Nahe river. Spätlese here is a classic Prädikat style with naturally lush sweetness held in check by the Brücke's hallmark minerality.
The 2021 brings ripe pear and quince together with generous white-fruit and apricot tones, all wound around a piercing core of lemon citrus. The palate is luscious and layered, with the natural sweetness perfectly counterpoised by a finely spirited acidity that keeps everything weightless. The finish unfurls slowly and rewards patient cellaring.
Beautiful with spicy Asian cuisine, fresh fruit-based desserts, blue cheese, or simply on its own as an after-dinner glass.
