A regional Bourgogne from one of the oldest family estates in the Cote d'Or. The Clergets have been growing vines in Volnay since 1268, and this Pinot Noir is made with the same hands and the same thinking that go into the domaine's premier crus, simply from younger or lower lying ground.
It is light on its feet and immediately drinkable: red cherry, cranberry and wild strawberry with a lift of violet, a hint of undergrowth, and gentle, fine grained tannins. Acidity is fresh and the finish clean, which makes it an easy wine to keep on hand and a genuinely useful one at the table.
Thibaud Clerget is the twenty eighth generation of the family and has been in charge since the 2015 vintage, following stints with Henri Boillot, Domaine Drouhin in Oregon and Hudelot-Noellat. Serve it lightly chilled with charcuterie, roast chicken, salmon or a mushroom tart.
