Domaine Lignier-Michelot's En la Rue de Vergy comes from a high, steep site at the top of the Morey-Saint-Denis slope, just above the famed Clos de Tart. The soils here are very thin over limestone, and the domaine's old vines, now more than 50 years of age, produce a firm, mineral expression of Morey with a strong sense of place.
For the 2023 vintage Virgile Lignier used around 70% whole bunches, a higher share than in the previous year. The stems bring aromatic lift and spice that work in harness with the limestone, giving a wine of energy, freshness and clear hillside character.
Aromas of black plum and raspberry are joined by hints of tea leaf and a subtle saline note. The palate is firm and bright with red cherry, wild strawberry and deep red berry fruit, gentle grip and a judicious touch of pepper leading to a long, saline finish. A classic expression of this vineyard that will reward patience in the cellar.
