Domaine Rougeot is a family estate based in the heart of Meursault, now run by Pierre-Henri Rougeot, whose family has made wine in the area for generations. The domaine farms organically and biodynamically across the Côte de Beaune, and is known for a gentle, low-intervention approach that favours whole-bunch fermentation and minimal extraction.
Clos des Roses is a walled plot of just under one hectare in Pommard, owned solely by the Rougeot family. It faces south-east and lies on ancient alluvial soils beside the stream that crosses the village on the Volnay side. The Pinot Noir is fermented largely as whole bunches with no punching down, relying on gentle pump-overs, before maturing in oak barrels with a modest proportion of new wood.
The result is a delicate, perfumed Pommard showing rose petal, fresh strawberry and cherry over hints of spice and earth, with a silky, fragrant and layered palate. Decant for half an hour when young and serve alongside roast duck, veal with mushrooms or a cheese board of washed-rind cheeses. It will also reward patient cellaring.
Vintages may vary. Email us at hello@barrelandbatch.com.au if you would like confirmation.
