En la Rue de Vergy is one of the most distinctive village sites in Morey-Saint-Denis. Sitting at around 300 metres at the very top of the slope, directly above the Grand Cru Clos de Tart, it has thin topsoil over limestone that gives wines of minerality and finesse. Domaine Lignier-Michelot has farmed its holding here since 1974, with vines planted in the 1970s.
Virgile Lignier, who took full charge of the family domaine in 2000, has refined the estate's work with lower yields, ploughing and careful use of whole bunches. In the warm 2022 vintage around half of the fruit was fermented as whole clusters, adding spice and lift to the ripe fruit of the year.
The nose is lifted and floral with blueberry, black cherry and violet, joined by hints of liquorice and rose petal. The palate is soft and layered, with ripe dark berry and red fruit, a touch of white pepper and fine tannins that integrate smoothly with the fruit. Generous and accessible now, it will continue to develop over the coming decade.
