Les Grands Charrons is one of the named village sites of Meursault, sitting on higher, stonier ground than the deep soils that give the appellation its reputation for richness. Parcels like this are where the more linear side of Meursault shows itself, and they reward growers who resist the temptation to build weight into the wine.
Aromas of lemon zest, white flowers and crushed almond open onto a palate that is taut and finely cut, with pear and green apple fruit and a distinctly stony undercurrent. There is texture here rather than fat, a saline thread through the middle, and a dry, clean finish of real length.
The Bouzereau family has farmed at Meursault for nine generations. Philippe has managed the 18 hectare domaine since 2006 with his brother Charles, working from vaulted thirteenth century cellars beneath the Château de Cîteaux, where fruit is hand picked, gently pressed and fermented using the yeasts the grapes bring in from the vineyard.
Vintages may vary. Email us at hello@barrelandbatch.com.au if you would like confirmation.
