Chassagne-Montrachet marks the southern end of the Bouzereau holdings, and the village makes a useful counterpoint to the family's Meursault base further north. Chardonnay here tends to be firmer and more citrus-driven, with the limestone showing through more directly, and this village bottling is drawn from parcels that give the wine drive as much as flesh.
The nose offers grapefruit, white peach and a touch of struck flint, with light toasted almond from time in barrel. On the palate it is precise and crisply structured, with a chalky grip through the middle, bright acidity and a clean, mineral finish that holds nicely.
Philippe Bouzereau took over the running of this 18 hectare estate in 2006, the ninth generation of a Meursault vine-growing family, working alongside his brother Charles. Their parcels are scattered from Aloxe-Corton down to Chassagne-Montrachet, an assembly of small plots that lets the domaine build a picture of the Côte de Beaune rather than a single site.
Vintages may vary. Email us at hello@barrelandbatch.com.au if you would like confirmation.
