From Domaine Marcel Deiss, the family estate based in Bergheim in central Alsace. Run by Jean-Michel Deiss since 1981 and now in the hands of his son Mathieu, the domaine is a leading proponent of biodynamic viticulture and the historical practice of complantation, in which multiple grape varieties are co-planted, harvested and vinified together as a single field blend, giving precedence to terroir over variety.
An Alsace blanc made from a field blend of all 13 grape varieties permitted in the appellation, including Pinot Blanc, Riesling, Pinot Gris, Pinot Noir, Muscat, Gewurztraminer and Sylvaner, drawn from clay-limestone soils across the village of Bergheim. Expect a fragrant, complex wine with notes of yellow peach, lemon, lychee, ginger, honey and white flowers, leading into a rounded, saline palate with a subtle touch of residual sweetness balanced by fresh acidity.
Hand-harvested with whole-bunch pressing and ambient yeast fermentation, then aged for 12 months on lees in stainless steel before bottling, with no oenological inputs.
