Domaine Louis Michel & Fils is one of the most respected names in Chablis, with a winemaking history in the village stretching back to the nineteenth century. The estate is known for its uncompromising stainless-steel approach: all wines are vinified and aged without any oak so that the Kimmeridgian limestone terroir comes through unfiltered.
Montée de Tonnerre is widely regarded as the finest of the Chablis Premier Crus, sitting just across the valley from the Grand Crus on the right bank of the Serein. Louis Michel farms a substantial holding here on the same fossil-rich limestone that defines the Grands Crus, producing wines that combine power and tension in equal measure.
The 2023 shows a vibrant core of pear, green apple and white flowers lifted by salty wet-stone minerality and cool, racy acidity. Linear and chiselled in style, it is a textbook expression of Premier Cru Chablis built for medium-term cellaring.
