Regional Bourgogne Blanc is usually drawn from vineyards spread across a wide area, but Domaine Leflaive's comes only from the village of Puligny-Montrachet itself. The fruit is grown on clay-limestone soils at the foot of the commune's famous hillsides, in the lieux-dits Les Parties, Les Houlières and La Plante des Champs, and the vines are tended with the same care as the domaine's Premiers and Grands Crus.
The Leflaive family has been in Puligny since 1717, and the estate is farmed biodynamically, certified by Biodyvin since 1998. Grapes are hand-picked and sorted, given a long, gentle pneumatic pressing and settled for 24 hours before fermentation in French oak barrels, only 10 percent of them new. The wine spends 12 months in barrel and a further six months in vat before bottling.
2023 brought a generous crop of balanced quality. A cool, wet spring was followed by ideal flowering, a brief July heatwave and a late burst of August warmth, with harvest starting on 29 August.
Crisp and lively, this is a bright, clean Chardonnay showing green apple, citrus and fresh meadow notes, and an ideal first step into the Leflaive range.
