Clos de la Chatenière is one of the great Premier Cru sites of Saint-Aubin, a tightly walled vineyard at the heart of the village that has long produced wines of focus and finesse. Domaine Hubert Lamy works a parcel of old vines within the Clos under the Vieilles Vignes label, and the resulting cuvée is one of the estate's most evocative and most sought-after whites.
Under Olivier Lamy the domaine has become known for its obsessive plot-by-plot work, very high vine densities and minimal new oak. The Vieilles Vignes is hand-harvested, whole-bunch pressed and aged in older barrels with extended lees contact, allowing the precision of the site to come through unfiltered by winemaking signature.
The 2023 lifts from the glass with gently reductive notes of toasted brioche, ripe pear and orange peel, threaded through with white flowers and chalky minerality. The palate is medium to full bodied, layered and beautifully concentrated, framed by structuring chalk and finishing with a long, saline lift. Built to drink well young but with the cut and depth to age for a decade or more.
