Domaine Henri Germain et Fils is a small family estate based in Meursault, known for its refined whites and its dense, characterful reds. In 2021 the domaine acquired a parcel of old vines, planted in the 1970s, in the Savigny-les-Beaune Premier Cru of Aux Gravains. The site takes its name from its light, gravelly soils and sits mid-slope between Les Lavieres and Aux Serpentieres, where cool air drifting from the Combe de Bouillon brings welcome freshness.
This is a red Burgundy made from Pinot Noir. The gravelly, limestone-influenced soils give it a perfumed, floral lift and a ribbon of sweet red berry and cherry fruit, with a touch of orange zest, framed by silky, mouth-coating tannins. It is balanced and elegant, leaning towards finesse rather than power.
Enjoy it with roast poultry, duck, pork or mushroom dishes, or give it a few years in the cellar to add complexity. A short decant helps the aromatics unfold.
