Domaine Henri Germain was established in Meursault in 1973 and is now run by Henri's son Jean-François, who farms a small holding spread across Meursault, Chassagne-Montrachet and Beaune. The estate has a quiet but devoted following for its precise, long-lived whites. Les Perrières is widely regarded as the finest Premier Cru of Meursault, its name a nod to the stony, limestone-laden soils that define the site.
Made from Chardonnay, this is a wine of both richness and tension, with scents of citrus oil, pear, white flowers, beeswax and wet stones. The palate is taut and chiselled, marked by deep concentration, racy acidity and a long, chalky, mineral finish that speaks of its celebrated terroir.
Serve lightly chilled with lobster, scallops, poultry in cream or richer white fish. A serious white Burgundy, it rewards a few years in the cellar and a generous glass.
