Domaine Henri Germain et Fils, founded in 1973 and now led by Jean-Francois Germain with his daughter Lucie, ranks among the finest white wine producers of the Cote de Beaune. The Chassagne-Montrachet 1er Cru Morgeot "Les Fairendes" comes from a prized upper-slope parcel within the broad Morgeot vineyard, set on lean, pale soils that lend the wine a sense of precision and mineral cut.
This is the richest white in the Germain range, yet it never loses its sense of balance. Made from Chardonnay, it offers aromas of ripe orchard fruit, peach, toasted nuts and gentle spice, leading to an ample, fleshy palate underpinned by a fine mineral tension. Long, slow fermentations in cold cellars give the wine its brilliant texture and finesse.
A wine for the table and the cellar alike. Serve lightly chilled alongside roast poultry, lobster, scallops or richer fish dishes finished with butter or cream. Time will only add to its depth and complexity.
