The aromatics are deeper and slower to emerge, with quince, white peach and lemon oil over hazelnut, beeswax and a pronounced stony note. The palate is dense and tightly wound, with real power behind a taut mineral frame, and the finish is long, dry and savoury. Patience pays here.
Domaine Guffens-Heynen covers roughly 5.5 hectares at Pierreclos, all of it Chardonnay, and has been run by Jean-Marie Guffens and Maine Heynen since the late 1970s. The house reputation rests on purity, precision and minerality, and on a refusal to accept that a Mâcon address means a lesser wine.
