Domaine Gerard Raphet is based in Morey-Saint-Denis and has been family owned since the 1920s, now into its fourth generation. Gerard works the twelve hectares alongside his daughter Marion, and the house style is one of transparency: light extraction, only around fifteen per cent new oak, tightly controlled yields, careful sorting and no fining or filtration.
This regional Bourgogne shows that approach at its most direct. The colour is pale, as it is across the range, but the fruit has real presence: red cherry, cranberry, wild strawberry and a hint of rose, with a fine savoury, earthy edge underneath. Tannins are soft and the acidity fresh, making it immediately drinkable.
The domaine's reputation rests on grand cru holdings around Morey-Saint-Denis and Gevrey-Chambertin, and the same hands and the same thinking go into this bottling. Serve it lightly chilled with charcuterie, roast chicken, salmon or mushrooms on toast.
