Domaine Dugat-Py Bourgogne Blanc 2023 750ml
Domaine Dugat-Py is best known for the profound old vine reds of Gevrey-Chambertin, but the estate's small production of white is made with exactly the same care. This is its Bourgogne Blanc, a Chardonnay that punches well above its regional classification.
The family has grown vines in Gevrey-Chambertin since the early seventeenth century, and the vineyards are farmed organically, treated only with organic preparations and biodynamic teas made on site. Some parcels are worked by horse, and where a tractor is needed the estate uses a very light one to protect the soil. The wine is fermented and matured in oak barrel with minimal intervention and bottled with a light hand.
In the glass it is precise and nervy rather than broad. Lemon, white peach and green apple are framed by white flowers, a subtle nutty note from barrel ageing and a chalky, mineral finish. Serve it with seafood, roast chicken or a soft washed rind cheese, and expect it to hold and improve over several years.
