Chambolle-Musigny is the most perfumed and delicately framed commune of the Côte de Nuits, where thin, limestone-rich soils over rock produce Pinot Noir of scent and silk rather than weight. It is the natural counterpart to a Volnay estate's holdings, since the two communes are often described as the most graceful in their respective halves of the Côte d'Or.
The nose is intensely floral, with red cherry, raspberry and violet lifting out of the glass over a fine note of woodland spice. The palate is supple and finely textured, with silky tannins, bright acidity and a long, elegant, faintly mineral finish.
Pousse d'Or came into Chambolle when it acquired vineyards from Domaine Moine-Hudelot in 2008, one of several additions Patrick Landanger made after taking the estate on in 1997. The domaine now farms around 17 hectares across seven communes, with its heart still in Volnay and its three walled monopoles there.
