Domaine Bruno Colin is one of the three estates created in 2003 when the respected Michel Colin-Deléger domaine in Chassagne-Montrachet was divided between family members. Bruno had worked alongside his father since 1993 and released his first wines under his own name with the 2004 vintage, farming a spread of village and premier cru parcels across Chassagne, Puligny and Santenay.
This premier cru Chardonnay comes from Bruno's holding in Les Vergers, a premier cru climat on the northern side of Chassagne close to the Puligny border, where the domaine's vines sit in the Les Pasquelles section on stony, well-drained limestone. The fruit is picked by hand with a careful selection in the vineyard, and the wine is raised in larger 350-litre barrels with only a modest share of new oak, followed by several months in tank before bottling.
Les Vergers is typically one of the more taut and mineral wines in the Colin line-up, showing citrus, white peach and hazelnut over a fine, chalky line of acidity. 2015 was a warm, sunny and early-ripening vintage across the Côte de Beaune, giving whites with generous fruit and a rounder texture, which here is balanced by the vineyard's natural tension. With some bottle age it should be showing honeyed, nutty development alongside the fruit.
