Bruno Colin established his own domaine in Chassagne-Montrachet when his family's estate, Michel Colin-Deléger, was split in 2003, with 2004 his first vintage under his own label. Having worked in the family cellar since 1993, he now looks after a collection of parcels in Chassagne, Puligny and Santenay, and is known for precise, finely tuned whites.
Les Vergers is a white premier cru on the Puligny side of Chassagne, and Bruno's vines lie in the Les Pasquelles section of the climat on stony limestone soils. Harvesting is done by hand with sorting in the vineyard, and the wine is aged in 350-litre barrels with a small proportion of new wood before finishing its élevage in tank.
2013 was a challenging, late-ripening year in Burgundy, marked by a cool spring, uneven flowering and small yields. The whites that came from it are often lean, bright and high in acidity, a style that suits this site's naturally mineral character. Expect lemon, green apple and white flowers with a chalky, saline finish, now joined by the toasty, nutty notes of a decade and more in bottle.
