Château de Beaucastel is one of the most historic estates in Châteauneuf-du-Pape, with roots tracing back to 1549. Owned by the Perrin family since the early 20th century, the estate was a pioneer of organic farming from 1950 and biodynamic farming from 1974. The Roussanne Vieilles Vignes is a tiny-production cuvée considered one of the great white wines of the southern Rhône.
100% Roussanne from the estate's oldest parcels — vines averaging around 80 years old, with some originally planted as early as 1909. Expect a powerful, complex and texturally arresting white with aromas of honey, peach, white flowers, exotic fruits and orange peel. The palate is rich, layered and satiny, balanced by the lift of the limestone terroir and a persistent saline minerality on the long finish.
Grapes are hand-picked in small cases, sorted and pneumatically pressed. Fermentation is split between stainless steel tanks and oak barrels, with eight months of élevage on lees before bottling. Production is very limited.
