Delamotte is one of the oldest Champagne houses, founded in 1760 and based in the Grand Cru village of Le Mesnil-sur-Oger at the heart of the Côte des Blancs. The vintage Blanc de Blancs is the house's top cuvée, drawn entirely from Chardonnay grown across six Grand Cru villages — Avize, Cramant, Oger, Le Mesnil-sur-Oger, Chouilly and Oiry — and only declared in years the house considers worthy.
The 2018 followed an exceptional growing season in Champagne, with ample winter rainfall, a warm summer and grapes picked from late August in remarkable condition. Aged four years on the lees and finished with a 5 g/l Brut dosage, the wine opens on Williams pear, lemon zest and white flowers, evolving with air to hawthorn, fresh hazelnut and sweet spice. The palate layers summer fruits, vineyard peaches and roasted hazelnuts over a chalky, mineral core, carried by bright acidity through a long, finely-etched finish.
Best served chilled around 8°C in a tulip glass. A versatile match for dim sum, ceviche, shellfish and delicate French cuisine, with plenty of cellaring potential ahead for the patient collector.
