Bruno Rocca is one of the names that helped define modern Barbaresco, and this is the estate's classic expression of the appellation, drawn from their holdings across Barbaresco and Treiso. It is Nebbiolo made for fruit clarity and polish while keeping the structure and perfume that the Langhe does better than anywhere.
The aromatics are generous and precise: red and dark cherry, rose, dried herbs and a lift of sweet spice from time in French oak. The palate is supple and well defined, with ripe, silky tannins and a savoury, mineral thread running through to a persistent finish. It is approachable earlier than many Barbaresco, without giving up the capacity to age.
Bruno runs the fifteen hectare estate with his daughter Luisa and son Francesco. They work without synthetic fertilisers or treatments and actively encourage biodiversity in the vineyards, on the view that a healthy ecosystem is the starting point rather than an afterthought. Serve with roast or braised meats, truffled pasta or aged cheese.
