Bass Phillip is a benchmark name for Australian Pinot Noir, established by Phillip Jones in the cool, damp hills of South Gippsland and shaped by a deep admiration for red Burgundy. The estate is now made in partnership with Jean-Marie Fourrier of Domaine Fourrier in Gevrey-Chambertin, whose winemaking follows the gentle, purity-driven principles inherited from Henri Jayer.
The Estate Pinot Noir comes from the property's older estate vines, farmed naturally and picked for perfume and freshness rather than sheer power. Expect a fragrant nose of red cherry, wild strawberry and rose petal, lifted by savoury spice and a touch of forest-floor complexity. The palate is silky and finely structured, with bright acidity and supple tannins carrying a long, perfumed finish.
A classic match for duck, mushroom dishes or roasted quail. Serve at cool room temperature and decant if enjoying it young.
