Basket Range Wine is a pioneer of the Adelaide Hills natural wine scene, working from a vineyard first planted in 1980 in the cool, elevated district of Basket Range. The estate is now in the hands of winemaker Sholto Broderick, who farms organically and makes every wine on the property with a gentle, low-intervention approach.
Bantam is the playful, easy-drinking side of the range. Built around Cabernet and its Bordeaux cousins and made with whole bunches and a light touch, it captures lifted fruit and gentle spice. Expect juicy red and dark berry fruit, a twist of white pepper and fine, savoury, almost dusty tannins, all framed by the freshness of the Hills.
This is a thoroughly moreish red that loves a light chill. Enjoy it with charcuterie, burgers, grilled meats or a midweek pizza.
