Arnaud Mortet is one of the most admired young names in Gevrey-Chambertin. Son of the late Denis Mortet, he created his own label alongside the family estate when a retiring grower passed a small holding to him and his sister Clemence, with their first vintage in 2016. The estate gathers old-vine parcels across Gevrey, including a foothold in the Grand Cru of Mazoyeres-Chambertin, where deeper clay soils give the wine a darker, more structured profile.
This is a Grand Cru red Burgundy made from Pinot Noir, raised with careful, gentle extraction and measured oak so the site shows through. Expect a deep, perfumed wine of dark cherry and blackberry, with earthy, mineral and lightly spiced notes, fine but firm tannins and a long, layered finish built for the cellar.
Give it a generous decant in youth or, better still, several years of patience. It is a wine for considered occasions, served with roast game, duck, beef or aged cheeses.
