A 100% Syrah Crozes-Hermitage from Yves Cuilleron, the benchmark Northern Rhône producer based in Chavanay. This cuvée - also labelled 'Labaya' in some markets - is drawn from around 2ha of vines in the 'Malfondière' plot just south of Tain l'Hermitage. Laya is an old district name for Tain l'Hermitage.
Grown on deep, stony, sandy-loamy soils that give the wine both ripeness and elegance. Expect a juicy, full-bodied Crozes with bright red and black fruit, floral notes and gentle spice, well-balanced and persistent on the palate.
Hand-harvested, sorted, crushed and partially destemmed. Fermented in open-top, temperature-controlled vats over around 3 weeks with regular cap-punching and pumping-over, using native yeasts. Malolactic fermentation in barrel, then aged around 16–18 months before bottling.
