Penfolds Bin 128 is a cornerstone of the Penfolds Bin range and a wine that has celebrated the cool-climate character of Coonawarra since the 1960s. Sourced from this famed strip of terra rossa soil in South Australia's far south-east, it offers a distinctly more elegant, medium-bodied expression of Shiraz.
Where warmer regions lend power, Coonawarra brings finesse and spice. The wine shows aromas of red and dark berries, black pepper and violets, with savoury notes of cedar and dried herbs. Maturation in French oak adds a fine-grained, spicy complexity rather than overt sweetness.
The palate is supple and beautifully structured, with vibrant fruit, gentle tannins and a fresh, peppery lift that carries the long finish. Approachable now, it will also reward some time in the cellar.
