Yarra Yering's Dry Red No. 2 is the estate's Shiraz-based blend, first made by Dr Bailey Carrodus from the 1973 vintage and now crafted by chief winemaker Sarah Crowe. Fruit is drawn from Shiraz planted in 1969 and through the 1990s, with smaller amounts of Mataro, Marsanne and Viognier from plantings dating between 1984 and 1995.
A layered, cool-climate Shiraz-led blend with real complexity. Expect fragrance of violets, cranberry, plum, bramble and five-spice, with a moderate-weight palate of summer pudding fruits, cigar box and cardamom spice, underpinned by firm yet fine tannins and a textural, savoury finish.
Vinified in the estate's signature small open fermenters with extended maceration to build complexity and tannin balance, then matured in French oak (a mix of new and seasoned) for around 18–22 months before bottling.
