The blending and quality of Woodford Reserve bourbon have been overseen by Chris Morris, a legendary figure in the whiskey world who has held the mantel at Woodford Reserve Distillery since 2003. Recently, Morris has taken a step back to allow Elizabeth McCall, Woodford’s first female distiller, to take the reins. Elizabeth, who has been with the company since 2009, continues to carry forward the tradition of excellence. Despite stepping back, Morris will remain an integral part of the production team.
Woodford Reserve's personal selection hasn't been available in our region for some time, there's always a chance of receiving another allocation for our community. This Barrel Selection Program was the first initiative that sparked the idea for Barrel & Batch selections back in 2017. To honour that original selection, we've chosen the one-liter bottle option for this release.
The standard Woodford Reserve bottled at 40% for our market. Our community is always looking for that next take on something new from the distilleries we love, not only in a litre bottle format, our personal select is also bottled at 45.2%.
Here are our tasting notes:
Nose: Molasses, toasted oak, caramel, clove, and baking spices with rich notes of dark fruit, caramel, sharp honey, chocolate, marzipan, and toasted oak.
Palate: Absolutely delicious with flavours of burnt sugar, toffee, caramel, and a citrus zest. A full-bodied mix of vanilla, dark caramel, hazelnut, apple, fruit, and spices.
Finish: Brown sugar and dark fruits, long and creamy with lingering hints of honeyed apple.
