History Of Bourbon

Woodford Reserve Distillery is undoubtedly one of the most picturesque distilleries to visit, with its stunning surroundings and beautifully maintained grounds. The story of Woodford Reserve began in 1812 when visionary distiller Elijah Pepper founded the Oscar Pepper Distillery in Woodford County, Kentucky. Located amidst lush bluegrass fields and benefiting from the region's pure limestone-filtered water, the distillery was destined for greatness.

The art of making fine bourbon started at the site of the Woodford Reserve Distillery, now a National Historic Landmark, in 1812. This sense of history is palpable, intertwining the history of bourbon with the history of Kentucky and the United States.
