Virginia Distillery Co. sits at the foot of the Blue Ridge Mountains in Lovingston, Virginia, where it makes American single malt from 100% malted barley in the Scottish tradition.
This release takes its main maturation in first-fill bourbon barrels before moving into casks sourced from Virginia cideries, among them Potter's Craft Cider and Buskey Cider, for a further eight to twenty months. The cider wood lifts vanilla, green apple and pear onto the nose, while the palate turns to baked apple and cinnamon over caramelised wood sugars drawn from the oak.
An unusual finish that plays to the orchard fruit already sitting in the malt, and one of the more distinctly Virginian whiskies in the range.
