Tyrconnell 16 Year Old is a single malt Irish whiskey from the Cooley and Kilbeggan distilling operation, a modern revival of one of Ireland's most storied single malt names. Sixteen years of maturation give this release a smooth, full-bodied character and a depth that rewards slow sipping.
Aged principally in American ex-bourbon white oak casks and rounded out with a finishing period in Oloroso and Moscatel sherry casks, it brings together the soft vanilla and oak of bourbon-cask ageing with the richer dried-fruit and nutty notes of sherry maturation.
The nose leads with citrus and orchard fruit over toasty cereal and vanilla. The palate is approachable and layered, showing green fruit, malt, gentle spice and a squeeze of orange peel, while the finish is subtly sweet with lingering oak and a long, herbal, spice-rich close.
