Ten Minutes by Tractor is one of the Mornington Peninsula's leading estates, founded in 1997 from three home vineyards in Main Ridge — McCutcheon, Wallis and Judd — that were described as ten minutes by tractor apart. Under Martin and Karen Spedding since 2003, the estate produces regional, estate and single-vineyard expressions of Pinot Noir and Chardonnay.
The Wallis Pinot Noir 2022 is a single-vineyard expression drawn from the home site in Main Ridge. All the delicate details of Pinot Noir are on display: spice, red currant and cherry lift on the nose, with a fine and detailed palate structure.
Winemaking follows the estate's unhurried, Burgundian-influenced philosophy — hand-picked and hand-sorted fruit, indigenous yeast fermentations, and an approach aimed at expressing the distinct aspect, slope and soil of each vineyard site with minimal intervention. No herbicides are used and the vineyard soils are mechanically cultivated to promote the natural terroir.
