From Tapanappa, the family estate established in 2002 by Brian and Ann Croser, pioneers of the modern Adelaide Hills wine region. Tapanappa is built around the philosophy of producing fine wine from 'Distinguished Sites'. The Foggy Hill Vineyard was planted by Brian Croser in 2003 at Parawa, on the southern coastal ridge of the Fleurieu Peninsula, around 8 kilometres from the Southern Ocean and 350 metres above sea level.
100% Pinot Noir from three Dijon clones (114, 115 and 777) planted on rootstocks in close-spaced rows, on sandy loam soils formed over the Cambrian-era Backstairs Passage Formation. Expect a fine-boned, mineral-laced wine with cranberry, rhubarb and cherry fruit, woven through with savoury fine tannins and a sinewy frame that combines elegance, depth of flavour and a distinctly cool-maritime expression.
Hand-picked from a low-yielding, low-UV vineyard managed minimalistically, with leaf-plucking after flowering to expose bunches. Vinified gently to preserve the site's natural finesse, with restrained use of new oak.
