Domaine Sylvain Cathiard is a family estate in Vosne-Romanée, founded by Sylvain's grandfather and run since 2011 by his son Sébastien. The domaine's flagship premier cru is Aux Malconsorts, where its vines date from plantings in the early 1970s.
Malconsorts lies at the southern end of Vosne-Romanée, directly beside the grand cru La Tâche, and is widely regarded as one of the finest premier crus in the Côte de Nuits. Cathiard's version is deeply perfumed and mineral, with layers of dark cherry, blackcurrant and violet, Vosne's signature exotic spice, a silky yet concentrated palate and a long, mouth-watering finish built on fine tannins.
This is a wine to cellar with confidence. When the time comes, serve it with roast pigeon, venison, duck with cherries or a truffled dish.
