Straffe Hendrik Tripel is brewed by Brouwerij De Halve Maan, the family brewery that has been making beer in the heart of Bruges for six generations. The Straffe Hendrik name, meaning "Strong Henry", pays tribute to the brewing heritage of the Maes family, and the Tripel is the original strong blonde ale of the range.
It pours a clear amber blond with a generous head. The nose is spicy, with hints of black pepper and ginger lifted by a touch of orange. On the palate, caramel malt sweetness gives way to a firm bitterness, with subtle notes of banana and citrus fruit carrying through to a dry, warming finish.
Serve at around 6°C in a tulip or chalice glass. It pairs well with spicy fish dishes, a wide range of cheeses and light, airy desserts.
