Rafael Palacios established his estate in 2004 in Valdeorras, in the eastern reaches of Galicia, drawn by the old terraced vineyards of the Bibei Valley around the village of O Bolo. Brother of the celebrated Alvaro Palacios, he has built a reputation as one of Spain's foremost champions of Godello, the indigenous white grape that thrives on these high, schist-laced slopes. Louro is his approachable village-level expression, drawn largely from Godello with a small proportion of Treixadura.
Grown on terraces that climb to around 600 metres, the wine shows a fragrant, mineral-driven character with white orchard fruits, gentle floral and herbal notes and a saline thread running through the palate. A short rest on its lees in larger-format French oak lends a subtly creamy texture without obscuring the clean fruit definition, while bright acidity carries it to a long, dry finish.
Serve well chilled as an aperitif or alongside grilled fish, fresh shellfish, roast chicken or lighter pork dishes. Its freshness and minerality also make it a fine match for Galician seafood and simply dressed salads.
