Pooley Wines is one of Tasmania's most celebrated family estates, and the Cooinda Vale vineyard in the upper Coal River Valley is the source of some of its most distinctive Pinot Noir. This Oronsay bottling is a single-vineyard wine built around the prized Abel clone, hand-harvested from the estate's continental, iron-poor soils.
It is a deep, savoury and beautifully detailed Pinot. The nose offers bright orange citrus, red and dark cherry and floral notes, evolving into dried herbs, spice and earthy, gamey complexity. The palate is elegant and spacious, with fine, dusty tannins, fresh acidity and a long, layered finish.
A refined cool-climate Pinot that drinks well now and will cellar gracefully, it pairs beautifully with duck, venison, mushroom dishes and roast poultry.
