Pooley Wines is one of Tasmania's most celebrated family estates, based in the Coal River Valley near Richmond. The Butcher's Hill vineyard is among their finest sites, and this Oronsay bottling is a single-vineyard Pinot Noir made from the prized MV6 clone.
It is a complex, layered cool-climate Pinot with aromas of wild cherry, dark strawberry and orange rind, lifted by dried herbs, spice and a savoury, almost gamey complexity. The palate is fleshy yet structured, with fine-grained tannins, bright acidity and a long, perfumed finish of cherry and almond.
Built to drink well now and to reward time in the cellar, it is a wonderful match for duck, venison, mushroom risotto and roast poultry.
