Pooley Wines is a family-owned Tasmanian estate based in the Coal River Valley, regarded as one of Australia's benchmark cool-climate producers. The Butcher's Hill Vineyard is one of the family's most prized sites, an elevated parcel of dolerite-rich soils that gives wines of brightness, salinity and natural freshness; the Chardonnay is the white-wine flagship of the range.
The 2025 is a powerful, beautifully detailed Tasmanian Chardonnay. The nose is inviting and pastry-led, weaving lemon curd brightness with toasted almond, marzipan and frangipane warmth. The palate is seamless and textural, with buttery croissant notes balanced by a steely citrus backbone, refined oak integration and a long, saline finish. A classy, world-class expression of place.
Beautiful now with roast poultry, lobster, scallops with butter, or aged Comté; will also reward time in the cellar.
