Le Noyer comes from a single walled clos of just 0.8 hectares at 470 metres above sea level in the village of Rotalier, in the southern Jura. The vines are over sixty years old, the altitude keeps everything cool and slow to ripen, and the Savagnin is fermented and aged in 600 litre barrels, larger again than the format Girardin uses in Burgundy.
The aromatics are bright and tightly focused, with lime, quince and white flowers over a nutty, faintly smoky base. The palate is vibrant and saline, with low pH giving it a real edge of energy, a fine chalky texture through the middle and a long, dry, savoury finish.
Pierre Girardin founded his estate in Meursault in 2016 and is the thirteenth generation of a Burgundian winemaking family. The Jura bottlings are made exactly as his Côte de Beaune wines are, with natural fermentations, large format oak and as little handling as possible, which is why they taste like site rather than technique.
Vintages may vary. Email us at hello@barrelandbatch.com.au if you would like confirmation.
