An intriguing wine from rising Burgundy star Pierre Girardin, this Savagnin is sourced from a single 0.8-hectare parcel called Clos du Château in Rotalier, Jura, at 470 metres altitude. The 60-year-old vines grow on heavy limestone and clay soils described as remarkably similar to Meursault's terroir. It is classified Vin de France because the grapes are vinified at Girardin's cellar in Meursault rather than within the Jura AOC zone.
Fermented with native yeasts and aged in 600-litre barrels (50% new oak), the wine is bottled unfined and unfiltered. The result is a bone-dry, high-acid Savagnin with notes of yellow apple, petrol, honey and dried apricot, finishing long and creamy — classic oxidative Savagnin character shaped by a Burgundian winemaking hand.
