From the steep, south-facing terraced vineyards of Cevins in the French Alps, Domaine des Ardoisières' Schiste is a compelling white blend of Jacquère (40%), Roussette/Altesse (30%), Pinot Gris (20%) and Mondeuse Blanche (10%). The domaine was founded in 1998 by Michel Grisard on long-abandoned terraces and is now run by winemaker Brice Omont under certified biodynamic practices, with slopes so steep they are partly worked by horse.
Named for the metamorphic mica-schist soils that define the vineyard, this is a mineral and precise dry white with alpine freshness. Fermented with native yeasts and bottled with minimal sulphur, no fining and no filtration — a vivid expression of one of France's most exciting emerging wine regions.
