From one of Burgundy's most exciting young talents, the Pierre Girardin Eclat de Calcaire Bourgogne Chardonnay 2023 is a stunning expression of Cote de Beaune terroir. Pierre-Vincent Girardin, the 13th generation of his family to make wine in Burgundy, launched his own domaine in 2017 and has quickly established himself as a producer to watch. The name "Eclat de Calcaire" translates to "burst of limestone," a fitting tribute to the chalky soils that define this wine's character.
The fruit is sourced from exceptional parcels across three villages: 80% from Meursault (Les Magny, Murger des Limozins, and Les Herbeux), 10% from Volnay (Monpoulain), and 10% from Pommard (L'Aumone), with vines averaging over 35 years of age. Farmed with organic practices, the grapes are fermented with indigenous yeasts in custom 456-litre Francois Freres barrels (30% new), specifically commissioned to reduce the influence of new oak. The wine spends nine months on lees in barrel followed by four months in stainless steel, and is bottled without fining or filtration.
On the nose, expect white peach, wet limestone and wildflowers, leading to a palate of remarkable energy and citrus-driven intensity. There is a subtle creaminess to the texture, but the wine's hallmark is its crisp, saline minerality on the finish — almost Chablis-like in its precision, yet with the richness and depth that only Meursault-adjacent fruit can deliver. A serious Bourgogne Blanc that punches well above its weight.
